SEGA had promised an announcement on this subject and has kept its word on time: during the Game Awards 2021 the full reveal of Sonic Frontiers, new chapter of the series dedicated to the fast blue porcupine.
The presentation trailer you can enjoy in the opening does not present any real gameplay portions, however it helps us to get a first idea on the concept at the base of this new incarnation of the franchise. As SEGA explains in its official description, Sonic Frontiers will “accelerate to new peaks and experience the thrill of high speed and freedom in open areas. Face powerful enemies as you rub through the Starfall Islands.”
The information shared by the Japanese publisher clearly seems to suggest that Sonic Frontiers will contain areas to explore more extensive than in the past, thus placing in the hands of the player a considerably deeper freedom of action. If the title will present a structure for all purposes open world, it is not yet possible to know.
As reported in the trailer closing, Sonic Frontiers will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X Plus, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch during the 2022 Christmas season. During the Game Awards, the trailer of Sonic 2, a sequel to the film dedicated to blue porcupine, also found space.
