Project Awakening: A New Look At The Photorealistic Jrpg Of Cygames

Remember Project Awakening? It is a JRPG with extremely realistic graphics and announced in 2016 exclusively for PlayStation 4. After keeping away from the scenes for many months, the project returned to showcase itself during a Tech Conference of Cygames dedicated to the Cyllist Game Engine.

The presentation has been completely focused on the technical aspects of the graphic engine, so a certain aura of mystery around this ambitious JRPG open world continues to continue. On the other hand, while showing off the capabilities of the Cyllist Game Engine, the movie attached to this news also offers us a look at the beautiful world shaped by Japanese developers of Cygames. The presentation showed that the graphic engine was optimized to offer high quality both in the short and long distance, and that the ground is composed of multiple layers, some paintings manually, other fruits of procedural generation. The vegetation positioning system is also procedural, and is designed to offer efficient and consistent placement of the foliage.

For now we have to be content with this: the video does not show the gameplay, so we could not test the fighting system, the game mechanics and the interface. The many years since the announcement are also creating a number of doubts about the destination platform: some say it may no longer be an exclusive PS4. We’re waiting for official information.
