Nier, The Series Is Over: Yoko Taro’s Joke In The Year-End Video

Yoko Taro, Yosuke Saito and Keiichi Okabe, creative director, producer and composer of the NieR series respectively, have created a nice end of the year message addressed to fans of the JRPG series.

The video you can see at the bottom of the news serves as a practical summary of the franchise’s achievements during this year, and then of the publications of NieR Re[IN]carnation and NieR Replicant, the latter reaching 1 million copies sold last year But the question that all fans ask is: how will the series continue?

According to the words of the Histrionic Yoko Taro, NieR’s franchise can be considered to be concluded. Or this is at least what is said jokely in the end-of-year video released by the eccentric threesome: “That’s right. We announced today, people. The NieR series is now over!”, Taro’s words before adding: “But, you never know. I could even go on if I got a good old pile of money.”

It is, as usual, an ironic Taro release, and a new chapter is taken for granted by players given the success of the latest iterations published by Square-Enix. It remains to be seen if and when the publisher will surprise us with a real revel. Pending news, we refer you to our Review of NieR Replicant, the updated and revisited version of the original NieR landed on PS3 and Xbox 360 over 10 years ago.
