Horizon Forbidden West: Guerrilla Reveals Many New Details About The Combat System

With a post just published on the official PlayStation blog, Guerrilla Games has revealed a lot of new details about the combat system and the Horizon Forbidden West AI.

According to Charles Perain, Combat Designer of Guerrilla Games, although Aloy is a nimble warrior with great intelligence, her equipment includes everything she needs to deal with armed men and machines with generous dimensions. One of the goals of the development team was to expand the possibilities offered by the gameplay, so that players could specialize in close combat, which offers different mechanics of new games, or the remote one. In this regard, the role-playing component implemented in this second chapter allows users to use armor that enhances some Aloy statistics and thus create builds that allow to unleash the potential of the warrior in specific roles.

The fact that Aloy has gained experience during the previous adventures will also be reflected in animations. According to Richard Oud, Gameplay Animation Director, the protagonist now acts more decisively and this will be obvious to the players who will watch her fight. Even the animations of human machines and opponents have been treated in a maniacal way so that not only the experience becomes more immersive, but also in order to make the action on screen more readable and to make the player guess what the next move of the enemy will The sound section will also contribute to the legibility of the action: according to the Senior Sound Designer Pinar Temiz, in fact, there are many sounds in the game that allow you to guess what a machine is doing even when it is far from the visual

During the post, AI was also mentioned thanks to the Lead AI Programmer Arjen Beijing, who specified that now the enemies are smarter and are able to climb and follow the tracks of Aloy to hunt her everywhere. In this regard, some cars can even swim and follow the girl underwater, so that she does not stop during a chase.

Please note that the game Guerrilla Games will arrive on the shelves of all stores starting from next February 18, 2021 exclusively on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5.
